What Is Google Business Profile?

Your Google Business Profile is the free listing on Google that shows your business name, phone, hours, reviews, and map pin.

For most local contractors, the Google Business Profile sends more phone calls than the actual website. It's what people see when they search your name, or when you appear in the map pack for a service in your city. Getting it right is the single highest-leverage thing a contractor can do online.

The basics: pick the right primary category (be specific — 'Roofing Contractor' not just 'Contractor'), fill in every field, add real photos of jobs, keep hours accurate, and enable messaging and call tracking if Google offers it. Post updates every couple of weeks — Google favors active profiles.

Reviews are the other half. Ask every happy customer for a review by text the day the job wraps. Respond to every review, good or bad, in a calm and professional tone. Volume, recency, and response rate all feed into how often your profile shows up.

Real example

A roofing company had a Google Business Profile with no photos, wrong hours, and 4 reviews from three years ago. After a month of filling it out properly and asking every completed job for a review by text, they had 22 new reviews and started ranking in the map pack for two of their target cities.
