What Is Local SEO?
Local SEO is the part of SEO focused on showing up when people in your service area search for the work you do.
Local SEO is what gets you into the little map pack — the three businesses with pins and star ratings that show at the top of a search like 'plumber near me.' For most contractors, ranking in that map pack is worth more than ranking #1 in the blue links below it.
The main ingredients are your Google Business Profile (categories, service area, hours, photos), consistent name/address/phone info across the web, and reviews — especially recent ones with photos. City-specific service pages on your website help too, because they give Google clear signals about where you actually work.
Local SEO also has a strong 'proximity' component: Google favors businesses physically closer to the searcher. There's no trick for that except having accurate addresses and, where honest, service-area coverage set correctly in your profile.
Real example
An HVAC company covered five cities but had only one homepage and their Google Business Profile listed one address. Adding a dedicated page per city ('AC Repair in Parkland,' 'AC Repair in Coral Springs,' etc.) and setting a proper service area on the profile pulled them into the map pack in three of the five cities within six months.
